EMPLOYMENT STATUS:
Part
Time/Temporary (Varied hours and shift assignments) No Benefits
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
(The
duties listed below are not all of the duties assigned to the position but are
those that are considered essential for an employee to perform.)

Responds
to and administers emergency medical services to the general public under the
guidance of a licensed physician or as authorized by North Carolina medical
practice standards.

Transports
injured or ill patients to health care facilities.
·
Participates
in required in-service training programs to remain abreast of changes in
techniques in emergency medical service delivery or new methods of treatment.
·
Performs
visual inspections of vehicles, radios, medical equipment and supplies; refuels
vehicle and reports unsafe operating conditions of vehicles and radios;
restocks supplies as required to maintain operational readiness.

Records
information in logs and other journals of actions taken or to provide
information.
·
Meets
with the public, supervisory personnel, and medical personnel to provide or
receive job related information.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Proof of education is no longer
required a the time of application unless specified as
part of the minimum qualifications; however, proof of education is required if
employed is offered.
Graduation from an
accredited college with an Associates’ Degree in Emergency Services AND
current certification in North Carolina as an EMT-Paramedic with a minimum of 6
months full time work experience. A four year degree is preferred, but not
required. Persons hired with an EMT-B or
EMT-I certification will be expected to successfully complete an aggressive,
concentrated recruit training program. College aptitude/placement testing
(pass/fail) will be done to pre-qualify candidates. Persons hired will be
expected to sign an agreement to repay their training costs if they leave
employment prior to serving two years. Preference will be given to Paramedics
with Associate’s degree. Intermediates will not receive preferential treatment
relative to Basics. Prioritized selection criteria includes: Attitude, work
ethic, personality; anticipated ability to successfully complete concentrated
paramedics-rescue technician training and field EMS experience. Recent graduates may use 1000 hours of ride
time to equal six months work experience.
A copy of current certification must
be presented at the time of application. A valid driver’s license is required with an
acceptable driving record. The
candidate selected must undergo a criminal background check and pass a drug
screening test prior to employment
