TITLE: ELECTRICIAN (Position #PW0020)

SCALE: $12.75 - $19.77 per
hour (Non-Exempt/Eligible for overtime)
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full Time
Essential Duties: (NOTE: The duties
listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned to the position but
are those that have been determined to be essential
for an employee to perform).
·
Installs,
connects, tests and maintains electrical systems for a variety of purposes
including climate control, security and communications; installs and maintains
electrical panels and systems for various machines, chillers and transformers
throughout county buildings.
·
Works
with blueprints to install electrical systems in county buildings and other
structures; must follow the National Electric Code as well as state and local
building codes when installing systems.
·
Performs
preventive maintenance and periodic inspections of electrical equipment before
breakdowns occur; advises management of hazardous equipment and installs new
electrical equipment as needed.
·
Locates
and diagnoses trouble occurring in buzzers, clocks, thermostats, shop
equipment, fans and motors.
·
Connects
wires to circuit breakers, transformers or other components; joins wires to
boxes with various specially designed connectors; uses testing equipment such
as ohmmeters, voltmeters and oscilloscope to check the circuits for proper
connections ensuring electrical compatibility.

Repair
and installs fixtures, outlets and switches and makes wire connections inside
walls or concealed areas; replaces items such as circuit breakers, fuses,
switches, electrical and electronic components or wires; checks the operations
of generators, switch gear & u.p.s; ensures
operation of back up units.

Works
with engineers, engineering technicians and contractors when working with
complex electronic devices for location of electrical wiring, circuits,
outlets, load centers and other equipment for installation or repair.

Performs
other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Proof
of education no longer required at time of application, but will be required if
employment is offered unless specified as part of the minimum qualifications.
Requires a High
School diploma and one year of progressive experience in the construction or
repair of electrical systems. A North Carolina Electrical License is required
and a copy of the license must be included with the application. The candidate selected must undergo and pass a drug screening test prior to
employment.
MINIMUM PHYSICAL AND ABILITY
REQUIREMENTS:
Occasional exposure to hazardous working
conditions (noise, fumes, height, slippery and/or hot surfaces, vibrations,
moving parts, dust, chemicals, temperatures, pressurized gases, high voltage,
high frequency power systems and inclement weather.
