Big catch at Biggerstaff: Man lands 11 pound bass

David W. Gorman and Son, SamariAs advice columnist Ann Landers once said, “No man having caught a large fish goes home through an alley.” For David W. Gorman, the route home included a stop at the local newspaper.

Gorman, 44, was all smiles Wednesday morning when he pulled a flapping, 11-pound largemouth bass out of his van in the Gazette parking lot. He says the catch was just what he needed to bounce back from a rough week.

“Every time I’m depressed and want to clear my head, I catch a big fish!” But the Gastonia native was quick to give credit where it was due: He said he only made the right cast because his young son, Samari, spotted the prize catch in Biggerstaff Park, where the two go fishing regularly.

As he placed the live fish back in a bucket, Gorman said he and Samari were on their way to return the fish to Biggerstaff. “Guess I lucked out,” he said.
